The Facilitator

Dr. Cathy SmithDr. Cathy Dodge Smith has worked for over forty years in the field of special education. She has been a teacher, counsellor, employment counsellor, guidance counsellor, psychometrist, college administrator, and licensed Davis Dyslexia Program Facilitator. While most of her work has been in the field of learning disabilities, dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, and attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder, she has also had experience with individuals on the autism spectrum. As she worked with the Davis Dyslexia Correction®, program and its companion correction programs for math learning disabilities, writing, and ADD, she became excited about the possibilities of Davis techniques for addressing the needs of autistic individuals.

In May of 2007, Ron Davis invited a small group of Davis facilitators who had a special interest in autism to join him in New Zealand to preview his autism program, and help with the development of the last part of the program, the social integration piece. Dr. Dodge Smith was thrilled to be invited and leapt at the opportunity to be part of this exciting adventure. Once the final touches were in place, Dr. Dodge Smith was part of the first wave of Davis facilitators to begin working to become a licensed Davis Autism Facilitator and Coach. In July, 2009, she became one of the the first Canadians to be so licensed, and is excited to be able to offer the Davis Autism Approach to individuals on the autism spectrum.
